Black Men's Project
About
Another Life Foundation has started "The Black Men's Project" to bring awareness of mental
wellness in the Black/African American community. It is well-known that barbershops are
community gathering spots for African American/Black males. The Black Men's Project is focused
on communicating the importance of mental health/wellness in the community.
This will be done by collaborating with different barbershops and beauty shops in the community,
to host Black male speakers for a 90-minute event. These community leaders in this informal
setting will share their inspirational stories, experiences, coping skills, workable strategies,
encouragement to seek help, and resources for achieving mental health/wellness. Those in
attendance will be able to participate in the conversations, ask questions, and get feedback from
the speakers while receiving a free haircut and enjoying refreshments and entertainment.
Project Goals
-
Our goal is to educate men and boys of color in the community about the importance of mental health and wellness.
-
Our vision is a world without stigma, and greater opportunities to achieve mental wellness.
-
Our focus is on using a culturally competent approach and involving diverse community leaders to communicate the importance of mental wellness in the Black/African American community.
-
Our mission is to build a culture of mental wellness among men and boys of color through promoting advocacy, also building and organizing a movement.

COVID-19 Virtual Counseling Support
About
COVID-19 has had a profound effect on everyone's lives. This pandemic has caused the whole world to implement social distancing to curb infection rates. This action has caused mass unemployment, stress, and anxiety. Many are at home isolated and some are suffering in silence. Another Life Foundation (Alifef) is aware that during this difficult time, accessing mental health services can be a barrier in the Black/African-American community.
Alifef has launched the COVID-19 Virtual Counseling Support Program, to provide mental health services to the Black/African American community and people suffering from anxiety and life-changing stressors related to the coronavirus. You will be able to speak to a culturally competent counselor on our network from the comfort of your own home, via the telephone or video conferencing.
Most insurances are accepted.
Research/Data
"Researchers suggest that Black people are dying at disproportionately higher rates in the United States. For example, the city of Chicago has 72% of virus-related fatalities are of Black people, despite the fact that Black people represent for a little less than a third of the population. As of today, there have been 468, 286 people infected and 16,663 have passed. So far 25, 316 have recovered."
